World Cup 2010 Day 1 – tips and preview

If, like me you wish the World Cup was every day, then the next 30 odd days are going to be just one long feast of televisual joy and pub banter. However, whilst wall to wall football is (obviously) a fabulous thing, its even more exciting if you have a little wager on it too.

Now I expect that you have already placed your bets on who is going to win, but what about some of the more unusual bets that you can place on this years World Cup?

As is usually the way, Paddy Power lead the field with some of the more unusual bets – if you watched the last England warm up vs Platinum Stars you may well find some value in Wayne Rooney getting sent off at any time during the competition – you can get a healthy 6/1 on that although he isn’t the favourite! That honour goes to Argentinas Mascherano who squeaks in at 11/2

If you fancy placing a bet on that then you can find them at Paddy Power, just click here to visit the site and then click on ‘World Cup Specials’ in the left hand side navigation panel. And just to make things even sweeter Paddy Power are offering a £50 free bet when you sign up as well!

Speaking of free bets, the bookies are literally throwing money at you to wager through them. Have a look at these bad boys…

William Hill – £30 in free bets. Click here to visit their site and when you sign up type WORLD30 into the promo box
Ladbrokes – place a £5 bet and get another £25 of bets free. Click here to have a look at Ladbrokes
Bet365 – a massive £200 of free bets! Simply make your first deposit up to £200 and Bet365 will match your deposit. Yowsers – thats a lot of free bets! Click here to pick them up.
888sports – yes, the online casino giants have a sportsbook too, and to celebrate the world cup they are actually giving you a £20 NO LOSE bet. Simply click here to visit the site, sign up, and if your first bet loses then they will refund you £20. Thats no risk at all, so why not have a punt on a long shot with it?
Paddy Power – as mentioned above PP are doing a £50 matched bonus on your first bet. Clicky Clicky to get it.

Anyway – thats a potential £305 of free bets that you can get by signing up for an account at each. But enough of that, what about todays games?

The 2010 World Cup kicks off with South Africa vs Mexico at 15:00 UK time. There isn’t much value to be had to be honest, with the draw the most attractive at 23/10 with Ladbrokes. More fun can be had by lumping onto the 18/1 that the First Goal will come from a Direct Free Kick. With the wibbly wobbly new Jabulani ball being compared to something that you would buy from a garage on the way to the beach I reckon there will be a lot of direct free kicks scored in the tournament. Anyway, its a massively ridiculous 18/1 with 888sports – why not click here and get that £20 no lose bet and stick it on that? Click on the South Africa vs Mexico match and then on ‘more’ and then scroll down to ‘First Goal Method’ and clicky clicky to place your bet.

The other game today is You Are Gay vs France. Again, I cant see any value in the home/away/draw odds (no team wants to lose their first game so the bookies are all in agreement and have priced the market accordingly). For me, it has to be 6/1 for Thierry Henry to be last goalscorer. He is on the bench and so will probably come on for Anelka with about 15 to go. Paddy Power have this bet, just click here to visit the site and select the match, then ‘More Bets’ and then scroll down to ‘Goalscorer Markets’ and place the bet.
Right, thats enough from me – good luck today and there will be more of this tomorrow!

And, remember that by the time you have read this the odds may have changed – so no bitching!

Thinking about placing a bet on the Grand National – you NEED to read this

Its getting to that time of year when the main horseracing events of the season take place – the Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National.

Natures great innit. Billions and Billions of things eating each other. Some very quickly, like a fat kid with a cake, and some very slowly, like Michael J Fox eating peas off a knife.
But take a look at this bad boy – its a parasite known as Cymothoa exigua. Its a parasite that can grow [...]

Whatever happened to Reg Hollis?

Evening!
Now here’s a weird one.
When I was growing up, The Bill used to be on the TV all the time. I didnt really pay much attention to it (its the kind of the thing that your other half watches whilst you wait to wrestle the remote away when the football is on, or lie their [...]
